Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In order to develop and popularize the Al-added stainless steels, B2-type FeAl was chosen in this study to investigate the interaction behavior between Fe and Al atoms. The point defect structure and ordering behavior of Fe-rich B2-type FeAl was focused on. The results from in situ XRD and HAADF-STEM indicated that the re-ordering process occurred in the intermediate temperature range. It was also found that the ordering state differs in the scale of nanometers in the material, which is probably caused by the variation of vacancy concentration. Therefore, when designing the Al-added stainless steels, it is important to take the point defects into consideration. For example, the thermal vacancies might affect the diffusion behavior, and thus the creep property of the alloy.
