Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In my first research, I gained the following results: Owing to consumer heterogeneity in willingness to pay, firms' sequential moves can Pareto dominate the simultaneous move. In my second research, I considered the "supplier encroachment" phenomenon. I constructed a framework based on a two-part tariff contract. I found that Although the encroachment creates more competitors in the resale market, the encroachment may still reduce the consumer welfare because it gives rise to higher wholesale prices. My third research was a joint work with Professor Noriaki Matsushima. We showed that when inputs from outside suppliers are not perfectly compatible with downstream manufacturers' requests, outsourcing does not necessarily enhance downstream manufacturers' profitability.
