Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、ヤドカリのオスが 1. メスをめぐるオス間闘争、あるいは 2. 強度の低い小競り合いのような通常の相互作用から優劣を構築し、劣位個体がそれに基づいた個体識別を確立して、同一の優位個体と再遭遇した際に闘争を避けるか、また、そのようにして確立した劣位個体の個体識別が、再遭遇時に優位個体の状況が変化することで、より速やかに破棄されるかを検証するものである。
本年は、主たる対象種であるユビナガホンヤドカリにおいて、前年度からの実験・解析を進め、以下３編の成果発表に至った。まず、野外の交尾前ガードペアを用いたメスをめぐるオス間闘争において、オスの大鋏脚の重要性と挑戦者が闘争前・闘争中に行う評価戦術を明らかにした研究が、研究代表者を筆頭著者として国際誌に掲載された。また、共同研究として、本種の一腹卵数と卵径が繁殖期を通じて経月変化すること、並びに大鋏脚サイズの性的二型が年間の繁殖スケジュールと対応してその強度を変化させることを実証し、研究代表者を対応・筆頭著者として国内誌と国際誌に発表した。
これらに加えて、本種のオスが、オス間闘争での優劣を介して、過去の闘争相手を個体識別していることを明らかにした。すなわち、観察対象の劣位オスは、過去の闘争で自らが敗北した優位オスと遭遇した場合に、そうではない優位オスと遭遇した場合と比較して、闘争を仕掛ける頻度が大幅に低下した。本成果も国内学会にて発表されている。
