Outline of Final Research Achievements

To clarify the relationship between muscle injury and the facilitating recovery of atrophied muscles, mice recovering from atrophied muscles underwent repeated isometric training with varying joint torques using electrical stimulation. As a result, the functional and histological effect from the muscle atrophy were worked on by applying exercise equal to or greater than a definite intensity level. However, the application of intense exercise caused vicious muscle injury inhibited recovery of muscle strength and myofiber size. These data indicate that resistance training without muscle damage facilitates efficient recovery from atrophy.
