Outline of Final Research Achievements |
With regard to the development of Leibniz's geometrical studies, we studied mainly on the relationship between the theory of constituting space and the development of theory of substance and tried to construct a interpretative framework for the transition of those concepts from the early period to the last period. In addition, focusing on the theory of constituting space in the last period, we are able to make a perspective to place Leibniz's theory of space in the history of concept of "a priori" in modern Western philosophy after Descartes. Furthermore, we examined the role of geometrical diagrams in Leibniz's infinitesimal analysis by analyzing the mathematical literature of the early Paris period. Moreover, we tried to construct a model to evaluate the philosophical significance of the Leibniz's philosophy of mathematics based on our research.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
従来無限小解析を中心として解釈されてきたライプニッツの数理哲学に関して、幾何学研究を中心とした解釈を提示することで、全く新しいライプニッツ理解をもたらしただけでなく、そうした新しいライプニッツ数理哲学の解釈は、現代の図形推論研究にも通じる着想を含むことを明らかにすることができた。研究成果は単著『ライプニッツの数理哲学』として刊行し、個々の成果をまとまったかたちで手に取りやすくすることができた。
