| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In the past three years I have been conducting a research mainly on “Three Kinds of Sounds and Glosses” (The Hand-copy Manuscripts of The Sounds and Glosses on the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra [Ishiyamadera and Mukyukai recensions, and the Excerpt of the Ishiyamadera Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra] from the vantage point of Chinese character studies, especially in the light of comparative variant-character analyses. It resulted in the formal publication of thirteen articles in scholarly journals, one monograph, and fifteen conference papers. To highlight the significance of the fruits of my research, it is to put the value of the study of the sounds and glosses of the Buddhist sutras in international perspectives and to introduce its scholarly importance to the academic world. Furthermore, through the study of the variant characters, it also clarifies the cultural history of Chinese characters as they were introduced to Silla, Korea and Japan where they had developed in their respective ways.
