Outline of Final Research Achievements

Sixteen verbs chosen from the multiple studies done by the authors were presented to the students by using power point slides with English sounds. Students had to read aloud six times after the recording. They showed greater accuracy in the production test with using these verbs carried out right after the production learning phase. However, they did not show the significant greater accuracy in the same production test done after 1 week. From this result, we can suggest only once of the training phase did not lead to the retention of these functions.
We also found that Japanese EFL learners only have a limited understanding of English verbs and almost no knowledge of collocations used frequently among native speakers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で動詞を中心とした統語情報の保持が非常に弱いことが明らかとなったことと、絵を使用した繰り返しの産出練習で、直後の産出への影響が見られたことが明らかとなったことより、産出練習の有用性が確認された。ただし、その影響は一時的なものと考えられるため、今後、複数回にわたり学習をすることで、長期の保持への影響が見られるかを調査する必要がある。
これまで流暢性を高めるための訓練が具体的に提案されることは少なかった。その上で、教室で即利用可能な指導を提案できることに本研究の最大の意義があると考えられる。
