Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Insulin-derived amyloidosis is a skin-related complication of insulin therapy. The amyloid fibril protein is derived from the injected insulin and forms an amyloid deposit at the injection site. The present study showed the clinical charascteristics and long-term prognosis of insulin-derived amyloidosis. Additionally, the study investigated the prevalence of insulin-derived amyloidosis by screening insulin injection sites using MRI in patients with insulin-treated diabetes. Moreover, this study indicated the structure and toxicity of insulin-derived amyloidosis. Thus, the present study showed the pathophysiology of insulin-derived amyloidosis more clearly, and cotributed to the improvement in insulin therapy.
