| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study focused on how different religious groups had managed to maintain the 'Co-Existence' dealing with religious conflicts in the early modern imperial city, Cologne.
As results of this study, we found following points. First, religious conflicts not always occured because of religious rites or something like this, but non-religious matters often brought about religious conflicts. Second, actors being involved in the conflicts to some extent on purpose turned non-religious conflicts into religious conflicts. Third, these actors often tried to resolve the conflicts by compromising about those non-religious matters, while putting off to deal with religious oppositions itself.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
近世西欧の宗派対立期についての歴史研究においては、人々が異宗派の隣人たちと日常生活を送るなかで「実態としての宗教的寛容」が形成されていったことが指摘されている。これらの研究は宗派紛争を防ぐ試みに関心を寄せる反面、宗派紛争が発生するメカニズムそのものに対する関心が相対的に弱かった。本研究は、非宗教的要因が「宗派問題化」する過程を詳細に明らかにすることで、先行研究のそのような課題に一定の解決策を示すことができた。
本研究から得られた宗派紛争のメカニズムに関する知見は、現在世界各地で課題となっている、宗教間の対立をいかに防止し共存を図っていくかという問題に一定の示唆を与えるものであると思われる。
