| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examines 21st century ethnic American women's literature, focusing mainly on works published after 2000 that concern with themes of self/community by writers of the ethnic group known as "New Americans," many of whom immigrated to the United States after the 1965 reform of immigration law. This research analyzes and discusses the representations of cultural differences such as race/ethnicity, gender and class from these works. The purpose of this project is to investigate the ways in which these women writers decenter and relativize the existing notion of Americanness, as well as to explore issues related to identity and contemporary America in the 21st century.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究で対象とした作家・作品は、近年アメリカの大学・大学院の授業で扱われるなど注目されているが、研究は多くない。しかし、近年「New Americans（新アメリカ人）」と呼ばれるエスニック・グループの人口比率は顕著に増加して存在感を増している。これらのエスニック・グループを背景とする女性作家たちの自己とコミュニティの表象を分析するこの文学研究は、量的研究からは見えてこない現代アメリカ人の姿を映し出している。本研究を通し、多様化する現代アメリカ人女性を取り巻く文化とアイデンティティ形成、そして「アメリカ」の諸問題を解明する事例研究にもなる点で、学術的・社会的意義があると考えられる。
