| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aims to clarify the problems in the aesthetic debates between intentionalst and anti-intentionalist. It consists of (1) reexamination of the aesthetic debates, (2) research on the Japanese Postwar Art, especially, Akasegawa Genpei's work and texts, (3) investigation of the interpretative practices by art historians, (4) study of the concept of intention in philosophy.
These considerations make it clear that philosophers of art, unlike artists, art historians, and philosophers, overestimate the role of authorial intention in interpretation. It leads us to reconsider the role of intention, not as conclusive evidence, but as one of the various sources for interpretation.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究では、作品解釈における作者の意図の役割について再検討の必要があることを明らかにした。すなわち、これまで美学分野では、解釈について考えるときに、意図が中心的な位置を占めてきたが、この構図を刷新し、あらたな視点から理論を再構成するための第一歩となる点で、学術的に重要である。また隣接の学問領域に対しても、一方で美術史研究における解釈行為が各人の恣意的な価値基準によってなされるのではないことを、他方で哲学研究にとっては、日常的な行為や発話における意図との違いを示すことで、意図概念に関する研究を促進するという点で、学術的な意義を持つ。
