Research Abstract |
We proposed theoretical frameworks in public sociology over the concept of "publicness", and showed their possibility of application and development regarding such theme as "freedom" and "publicness of emotion". As to welfare and gender; we carried out two investigations and published reports: one was quantitative and the other was qualitative. On the results of the investigations, we compared the awareness of value regarding publicness in the pluralist welfare societies, and analyzed the empirical data over community welfare, local residents' participation, role of cooperative sectors, welfare administration, and care and gender: On the empirical data we also made comparative studies on such themes as gender and social stratification, aged society with a declining birthrate related to the problem of economic disparity, economic disparity among older people and among younger people, and the relation between measures against low birthrate and gender impartiality. , we examined its principle and historical origin over the idea of 'independence" and "support". On the subject of culture and pluralism, we engaged in the research on the question of multiculturalism and the uses of English, on the publicness in the cultural resources studies, and on the actual conditions and the problems of cultural public policy. In addition to that, we approached the question of the position of religion and politics in the modern society. We also tackled the question of the publicness in commercial companies. As to environment, we analyzed sociologically the link between "environmentally friendly" technologies and global environmental problems and have brought new knowledge. For the specific details, please see our report of research project, grant-in-aid for scientific research A Comprehensive study of public sociology on Gender, Welfare Environment and Pluralism". We are preparing for publication of three-volume books tentatively titled "The perspective of public sociology" from Todai syuppan-kai. Less
