Research Abstract |
Programmes which enable urban poor communities to develop and manage their own solutions have been promoted in cities. Actually poor urban communities across the developing world are mobilising for change and making their voices heard. The study aims to establish a theory for community planning in Asian-mega cities where deteriorated living environment of urban poor have come to be crucial issues. As the themes seem to diversify in communities and frequently change in cope with process of development, we have finely analyzed a possibility of multi-habitat and activities of community network to improve living environment of urban poor through the research on Thailand, Philippines and Korea. These three keywords-activities of community network, multi-habitat in living environment and a neighborhood unit for community development- are found consequently Firstly, a community network which is organized by each community as a member is able to empower activities of urban poor in an expansion of whole city. And its horizontal cooperation is shown to be efficient solving problems occurred from communities Secondly, a traditional Community formed by mix-land use and located inner area of a city is reevaluated as a sustainable, human-scaled, lively and compact environment. Such a living environment is defined as a multi-habitat and the same quality sometimes found in a sprawled area where are formed by mixing with houses and farm lands Thirdly a process-oriented and participatory community development by neighborhood units is demonstrated to be one of key concept that improve living environment autonomously.
