Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to present an operation-system for the Abies and Tsuga forest in the Kirishima-Yaku National Park Japan, in order to maintain this kind of good and old forest. In this study, the following sub-themes are analyzed. (a) Operating system for the Abies and Tsuga natural forest, (b) Health monitoring for individual trees in natural forest, (c) DNA analysis for genetic bio-diversity and (d) Expanding the operation system to the natural and plantation forest in this Kirishima area of Kirishima-Yaku National Park. (a)In Kirishima area, some experimental plots were established in each cutting-method. That is, clear cutting, selection cutting, plantation forest and natural forest are analyzed comparatively. Based on the long observation, the natural regeneration in the artificially operated forest of Kirishima area will be better than the protected natural forest. (b)For the beginning of tree health monitoring in Kirishima, the studies on the standard of health condition was conducted. The analyses of leaf density, number of branch and fractal dimension of crown were applied, and the photo sets as the standard were proposed by the author. The two health monitoring lines were established and the trees larger than 20cm d.b. h. were measured and the health conditions were evaluated for 10 years observation. The health condition of Abies firma declined worst of main tree species. (c) From DNA analysis for sapling tree in the different types of forest, it is denoted that the all operated forests have same genetic bio-diversity in this study area. (d)For natural generation, the existence of mother tree is denoted to be most important. The information for the mother trees have to be corrected for natural forest management in future.
