Research Abstract |
(1)Survey on the impact of decentralization Structured interview survey to local governments in Indonesia was conducted in order to evaluate the responsiveness, transparency and accountability. As result, it was found out that there is a desirable relation among the advancement of decentralization, the formulation of bottom-up regional development planning and the reflection of unique regional conditions. (2)In-depth case study in typical regions In-depth case studies on the formulation process of bottom-up planning process in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Tran and Pisanulok, Thailand were conducted. In addition, comparative case studies were also done in Japan and Vietnam on order to identify the usefulness of bottom-up regional development planning process and generalize their lessons. (3)Expert group meeting on bottom-up regional development planning process International Expert Group Meeting was conducted in January 2007 in order to further discuss the results of the above study and to propose the recommendation. (4)Policy recommendation on the new directions of urban regional development planning As result of the study, the importance of the formation of local governance was pointed out. As a new direction towards regional development, urban corporatism approach, bottom-up initiative approach, market based project oriented approach were identified.
