Research Abstract |
Extensive exploration research for traditional anti-infectious medicinal plants in Central Africa disclosed twenty candidate medicinal plants. As a result of evaluation for in vitro antimalarial and trypanocidal activity of these collected medicinal plants, the MeOH extracts from Garcinia kola and Artemisia annua were shown to exhibit significantly potent antimalarial and trypanocidal activity, respectively. Bioassay guided separation of the extracts resulted in isolation of three biflavonoids and artemisinin as responsible bioactive principles.
