Research Abstract |
The main object of this research was to develop and evaluate the voluntary walking program using the intelligent pedometer for improvements in physical activity and fitness. Pedometer (HJ-720IT, Omron Healthcare) using our research had built-in memory of 42-days step data, and connected to the personal computer for to download the memorized data. Walking habit for each person was shown on the monitor of computer by the software (BI-Link Professional ed.2.0,Omron Healthcare). Participants recognized their own walking habit, and planned their walking steps and times on one day. Sixty one persons take part in our program at a first half year, and 53 persons (87%) store data on the computer. Next a half year, there were 34 persons (69%) to enter one's walking data on the computer. This reduction was caused by limitation of computer in use. It is necessary to prepare the environment easy to use a computer for everyone. However, the intelligent pedometer use our research had been contributed the will to walk, and to have motivate a person to walk. Present research examined clinical tests regarding body composition (BC-118D, Tanita), blood pressure & pulse wave (VS-1000,Fukuda Denshi), bone density (McCue, CUBA Clinical), and exercise test on the bicycle (232C-XL, Combi) for ECG (ML-1120,Fukuda Denshi) and plod pressure (FB-180, Fukuda Denshi). Participants of our walking program and non-participant lived in a same village underwent these tests. Our results showed that there were no particular changes in most result of the tests, but participants tended to improve bone density and hardening of the arteries among one year intervention of walking program.
