Research Abstract |
We have studied to improve the environment that a visually disabled person can freely access to science and mathematics materials written by MathML on the Web. To incorporate barrier-free in mathematical expressions by MathML, we developed the 'MathML Proxy' that was an interface expressing mathematical formulas on a browser. This program is a proxy server changing a MathML included in homepages for an accessible form Its function is following that (1) Intermediating a browser between a web server as a proxy, (2) Making a request to a web server for contents, (3) Translating an only MathML which is contained the contents received form web server into an accessible form, (4) Putting translated contents out to a browser. It is almost possible to read mathematical formulas aloud on a browser, using the existing screen reader running on windows system, and to express image of mathematical formulas on the browser not showing MathML On constructing educational contents, we adjust the database of mathematical formulas enabling to browse on the web. And we open it on URL http : //pegasus. gaea. jcn. ni hon-u. ac. j p. We develop the CGI program editing and uploading the formula database or the teaching material created by a math editor (Infty editor, etc). On developing an input /output interface and a macro of reading mathematical materials, we made the Japanese version 'Chatty Infty' and English version one adding a speech aloud system to 'Infty Editor'. In future, evolving the technique, we proceed to investigate a more barrier-free browser.
