Research Abstract |
The present paper on 'English Medieval Manuscripts and Monasteries' consists of three parts. Part 1, 'Mount Grace Priory and Nicholas Love's Mirror of the Blessed Life of Jesus Christ,' also treats of the Carthusian Order, Monastere de la Grande Chartreuse and Charterhouse in London, as well as the Waseda MS of Nicholas Love's Myrrour. Part 2 is centered around the border abbeys and the Lindisfarne Gospels, particularly in terms of what befell it at the Great Fire in London in 1731. Part 3, though a supplementary and somewhat eclectic work-in-progress, contains transcriptions of single leaves of several European MSS, Towers and Pagodas, Marginalia of Love MSS, and this writer's own translation of Sir Walter Scott's Ballad into Japanese. The present paper also shows more than 50 colored photos to support the interpretation and explanation of the various items of the study.
