Research Abstract |
In 2005, we carried on the investigation which we had been doing since 2004 to consider the psychotherapeutic relationship through the sandplay with old people who live in a nursing home. Also, we made analysis on the data which we had been collected since last year. 1. Since the beginning of this study in 2004, we regularly had conferences on the various aspects of this investigation, and problems were discussed and modified there, and this year, we analyzed how the way of this investigation has been changed. As a result, it was found that the investigation entails two kinds of aspects. One is to be applied to old people in genera, and the other one is to be applied to each individual in particular. Through the analysis, it was thought that the latter is more important in order to have profound psychotherapeutic relationship with old people. 2. Because we made continuous sessions of sandplay with each cooperator, the relationship between the cooperator and the observer became somewhat similar to that in the psychotherapy. So, we analyzed the relationship generated in this investigation, following the method of case study. As a result, it was found that, when we think about "psychotherapeutic relationship with old people",we should pay more attention to the relationship between the cooperator and the observer, which is to be developed through sandplay, rather than the content of sandplay work itself. In particular, we discussed closely about the theme of "termination" of each investigation, which has relevance to the theme of "preparation for death",a realistic problem for old people. Our conclusion is that we need to study psychotherapeutic participation to old people, recognizing that they are living in the process of losing and dying, and that is beyond the simple idea of "development".
