Research Abstract |
This study explores the construction of peer support system in school and community settings mainly by examining 4 research fields. First, I examined how the support is provided in a self-help group, named "The parents-gathering", consisted by parents whose children refuse to go to school. The parents-gatherings I researched are mainly located in the U city, Kyoto prefecture. Secondly, I examined 'team approach' through 'case conference' about the matter of children's refusal to come to school by the relevant teachers and school counselors. This research was conducted at a junior and high school in Kyoto prefecture, the Board of Education in H city, Osaka prefecture and a high school in Shiga prefecture. Thirdly, I examined peer support system among children to resolve conflicts and problems among children in T city, Gunma prefecture and H city in Hiroshima prefecture. Fourthly, I examined supporting practices provided to junior and high school students by youth and college students who are involved in building places where children and youths can feel their sense of belongings. In this context, I mainly focused on the program development and internship for building places where those students can feel sense of belongings at T children house in Kyoto city and O high-school in Shiga prefecture. I, as a member of the Japanese society of peer support, visited some elementary and high schools in New York and Vancouver to research their peer support system in March, 2005 and 2006. I have been continuing the comparative research between Japan and the North America. The fiscal year of 2006 is the last year of the 3-year research period. I intend to present the details in the collection of study reports.
