Research Abstract |
The strain rate effect of steel web plates with shear collapse and inelastic earthquake response of steel frames have been studied for these two years. The conclusion can be summarized as follows. 1.An experimental study on elasto-plastic response of web plates under high speed shearing force Fifty web plate specimens with width-thickness ratio 33 to 154 were tested up to the failure under the condition of high speed shearing force by using the special experimental device. The following observation can be made with regard to the variation of resistant shearing stress due to the shearing strain rate. 1)The shearing overstress, which means the difference between the static stress-strain curve and resistant shearing stress, varies in proportion to the shearing strain rate. 2)The increase in shearing overstress becomes maximum in the virgin hysteretic loop. In the following loops, the strain rate effect becomes small due to the increase in strain hardening effect. 3)The relationship between the

shearing overstress and strain rate can be arranged as approximate curves 2.Three dimensional elasto-plastic earthquake response analysis of steel portal piers The elasto-plastic earthquake response analysis of portal frames was performed by considering the damage of web plates in beam and column base parts. Numerical results demonstrate the variation of damage pattern of frame members due the shear buckling of web plates in beam. The inelastic response including local buckling of web plates in beam makes the damage of column base cross-section small. 3.Conclusions 1)Through the experiment by using steel web plates under shearing force, the variation of resistant shearing stress due to strain rate can clearly be observed for the formulation of stress-strain relationship. 2)When combining the above stress-strain relationship with the numerical program on the basis of elasto-plastic and finite displacement theory, it is possible to analyze more accurately the collapse behaviours of steel framed piers.
