Research Abstract |
There are many cases where shock loads are applied to structures, such as dropping stones, debris flows, traffic clash, and so on. However, design techniques have not been established yet for geotechnical structures receiving shock loads. Based on field model tests of dropping stones, debris flows, and traffic clash, and based on weight fall tests and rapid loading tri-axial compression tests, this research aims to develop a design technique for geotechnical structures against shock loads. 1) The two-dimensional computer program which the author developed for shock loading, has been extended for three-dimensional case. 2) The computer program which the author developed for representing collapse mode, has been extended for three dimensional case. 3) By performing rapid loading tri-axial compression tests, deformation and strength for shock loading have been investigated. 4) The results of many field model tests have been arranged for numerical analyses. 5) Subjected to car clash to road fence, laboratory model tests and numerical analyses using the computer programs developed in 1) and 2), have been performed. These tests and analyses have been carried out also when applying earth reinforcement method. 6)Based on these results, a foundation of design technique has been gotten for geotechnical structures having shock loads. By the way, a method for estimating strength parameters has been developed by monitoring the time history of acceleration when dropping a weight.
