Research Abstract |
A survey of the use of thermal control use was carried out for 10 apartments during summer-autumn where both natural and mechanical cooling were available. 1) There are critical outdoor temperatures where the proportion changes widely; 22ーC, 27ーC and 31℃. 2) The relationship for office buildings differs from that for residences. 3) The relationship between indoor temperature and the ratio of air conditioning can be modeled as a logit function. 4) Window opening is done most when the indoor temperature is about 5K higher than the outdoor temperature. 5) Ratio of air conditioning was around 70 % for outdoor temperatures of 26-33℃. 6) The relationship between ratio of opening and the indoor temperature differed by the periods. 7) Indoor temperature correlated to the outdoor temperature when not cooled, and respective r2 value was 0.41 and 0.35 when opened and closed during summer-autumn. 9) The dependence of indoor temperature on the outdoor temperature was highest for closing when not air-conditioned. A questionnaire survey was also carried out for 290 apartments. 1) Reasons for opening are strongest in descending order of "Ventilation", "Cleaning". 2) "Thermal maintenance" is strong among reasons to leave windows closed. 3) Among reasons for closure, living activities of crime prevention, going out, and sleeping are strong. 4) Cooling costs are related to the number of air conditioners, the months of occupation, and the air conditioner usage during sleep and not to lifestyle and ecological interest. 5) Cooling temperatures are related to the frequency of opening and the residents' constitution. 6) Temperature and frequency are higher for residents worried about dew, humidity, odors, and mold. 7) Frequency is higher for residents annoyed by glances from outside and for those with preference of outdoors. 8) South openings are related to the lower costs and higher temperatures.
