Research Abstract |
In order to explore the role of non-receptor tyrosine kinase Fyn in neurodegeneration of prion diseases, experimental prion diseases in mice homo- and hemi-zygotic for fyn-knockout allele were analyzed and compared with that in wild type mice. The diseases had indistinguishable incubation periods and shared all typical findings including clinical manifestations, spongiform degeneration and accumulation of protease-resistant prion protein in the brain tissue irrespective of mouse genotype. The deficiency of this single Src family tyrosine kinase seems not to affect prion pathogenesis.
