Research Abstract |
Children of primary and junior-high school in a rural in the southern Kyoto prefecture were examined for their symptoms and serum antigen-specific IgE antibody every May or June during 1994-2005. Dispersion of Japanese cedar pollen(JCP) was counted in the town by Durham's method from February to April, every year. Sensitized children to JCP ranged from 43 to 65%, and children with definite Japanese cedar pollinosis(nasal/conjunctival symptoms lasting 3 weeks or longer in March/April) were 14-27%, both of which were correlated with amount of dispersed pollen. The geometric means of JCP specific IgE antibody as well as those of house dust mite(HDM) have been increasing along with the calendar year independently on amount of dispersed pollen: standardized regression coefficient of calendar year was 0.075 (p<0.001) and that of the amount of JCP was 0.085 for JCP-IgE as dependent variable, and 0.104 (p<0.001) whereas they were 0.104 (p<0.001) and 0.005 (p=0.73), respectively, for HDM-IgE. Whole blood samples of those children was stored at -80 degree using PAX gene^<TM> Blood RNA System both in 2004 (year of small dispersion) and 2005 (large dispersion). We examined the level of mRNA expression for a cell surface receptor having a high affinity for IgE (FcεERIα). Among 12 children with Japanese cedar pollinosis and 13 non-poolinosis children, the level of expression was not different between 2004 and 2005 for each group, and also did no differ between the groups either in 2004 or 2005.
