Research Abstract |
4-META/MMA-TBB resin has been used for the bonding of vertically fractured roots and apicoectomy. It has good characteristics, such as adhesive properties to dentin and cementum. However, some studies demonstrated that the collagen fibrils that are not enveloped by resin may become susceptible to water degradation in the long-term. The purpose: to evaluate the longitudinal changes in biocompatibility and mechanical properties of 4- META/MMA-TBB resin in vitro and vivo. 1.Mechanical properties and Biocompatibility: After mixing the resin, these specimens each were stored in horse serum or in air for lday, lmonth, 3month,6month and lyear at 37_. After each periods, they were examined. 1)micro-tensile bond strength (MTBS): for cementum, there is not difference between the values at 1- year and at 1-day 2)hardness: at lyear was higher than at 1 day. The value in air was higher than in serum. 3)biocompatibility: increased within 1 year and this increase was more delayed in serum than in air. 2.Cha

nges of Biocompatibility in vivo Mandibular incisors and premolars of 2 dogs were used. The root canals were contaminated with dental plaque and apical periodontitis was induced. They were divided into 4 groups. Following the roots were resected, root-end surface was prepared slightly concave, Super bond(SB) was applied. In EBA and MTA group, root-end cavities were prepared and retrofilled. In no filling group, no retrograde filling was performed. Healing was evaluated radiographically and examined histologically 3months after the surgery. SB and MTA group : a normal periodontal ligament space, and some roots showed reduced area of periradicular radiolucency compared with that before surgery. Little inflammation was observed. In no filling and EBA group, some roots showed enlarged area of periradicular radiolucency compared with that before surgery, and more inflammation was observed. Conclusion: root-end sealing and bonding treatment using 4-META/MMA-TBB resin induce good prognoses by good biocompatibility and mechanical properties. Less
