Research Abstract |
1. The purpose of this research was to have improved the quality of the support program intended for the cancer patient and the family. 1) We investigated cancer patient and family's needs for the support program after leaving hospital. As a result, 65.2% of the patients( n =158) expected participation in the support program. 2) They expected the following information to be obtained from the support program ; a) information on physical conditions and treatments, b) coping way of uneasiness and worry, c) how to settlement of work and economic difficulties, d) information on palliative care. 3) The cancer patients freely described their experiences those were qualitatively analyzed. As a result, the following matters have been found from the cancer patient's experience ; a) mental (depression, negation, uncertainty for life and so on), b) physical condition and daily life, c) relations between patient and family, and social life. 4) The program and the teaching materials were made revised on the investigation results. Moreover, we held the progress meeting to improve the quality of the program. 2. The support program to the cancer patient and the family was evaluated about the process and the outcome. 1) The evaluation score of "exchange among cancer patients" for which the cancer has increased. 2) And, the effect concerning "ease spent with companion who shares feelings" and "improvement of coping ability to pain or difficulties" were admitted.
