Research Abstract

本研究の目的は、微細な行動連関に注目することで、ヒトに最も近縁なチンパンジーの社会交渉における規則性を抽出することである。そうした規則性が社会的に形成されている可能性について検討した。平成18年9月4日から11月5日までの間、タンザニア共和国西部、タンガニイカ湖東岸にあるマハレ山塊国立公園に生息する野生チンパンジーMグループおよび隣接のYグループを対象として野外調査をおこなった。よく人に慣れているMグループについては、チンパンジーが日常的におこなう毛づくろい行動における身ぶり行動の連鎖に注目して調査をおこなった。こういった社会的に生成される規則性によって、チンパンジーの集団間に「文化」と呼ぴうるような地域差が生じることが明らかになっている。文化的な毛づくろいとして知られる対角毛づくろいの発達過程に注目して本研究の3年間およびそれ以前の数年間に継続して収集したデータを分析したた結果、幼少個体がこの毛づくろいをおこなう際には、母親の側から微細な形での働きかけが見られることが明らかになった。この内容については現在英文論文を執筆中である。また、ここまでに得られた結果の一部は、『Symposium International Recherche et Conservation des Grands Singes Africains』(ギニア・コナクリ11月)、『The Mind of the Chimpanzee』(米国・シカゴ3月)などで口頭発表をおこなったほか、本研究の根幹をなす基本的なアイディアについてはいくつかの和文論文として執筆した。
