Outline of Annual Research Achievements

惑星周辺の宇宙環境(電磁気圏環境)は、惑星の固有磁場強度によって大きく異なる。しかし現在、固有磁場強度が変化したときに、電磁気圏環境や大気流出量がどのように変化するのかを予測できる段階には達していない。本研究の目的は、地球と火星の比較に基づいて、地球型惑星の電磁気圏環境に固有磁場強度が与える影響を解明することにある。
平成30年度には、昨年度までのデータ解析研究をまとめ、下記の成果を得た。まず火星探査機の電位の特性を利用し、従来測ることが困難であった低エネルギーイオンの統計解析を実施し、20eV以下の低エネルギーイオン流出がより高いエネルギーのイオン流出量に匹敵することを見いだした。また、惑星表面に残留磁化の多い南半球と少ない北半球の比較から、惑星磁場が分子イオンの流出を促進する一方で、原子イオンの流斎つを抑制することを明らかにした。さらに太陽風電場の向きによって、大気流出機構が異なり、上向き電場半球では磁場に平行方向の電位による加速が、下向き半球では電場ドリフトや惑星間空間磁場(IMF)の侵入が重要となることが示された。
また、地球に関しては、EISCATレーダーデータの統計解析を行い、惑星周辺の宇宙環境を大きく乱す磁気嵐の原因となるCME(コロナ質量放出)とCIR(共回転相互作用領域)の2つの太陽風の特徴的な構造に着目して、地球電離圏からのイオン上昇流への影響を調べた。その結果、CME駆動磁気嵐時には、夜側でのイオン上昇フラックスがCIR駆動時の約4倍に増える一方で、昼側でのイオン上昇流の継続時間は、CME駆動型に比べCIR駆動型磁気嵐の方が2日程度長いことが明らかとなった。
これらのデータ解析結果を踏まえて、太陽風と惑星大気の相互作用のグローバルシミュレーションの設定条件の考察を行うとともに、IMFの方向がイオン流出量に大きな影響を与えることを明らかにした。

Reason

本計画で第三年度に予定していた、MAVEN火星探査機のデータ解析、ジオスペース探査衛星あらせとEISCATの同時観測、統計データ解析研究成果のまとめと数値実験へのフィードバック、固有磁場強度をパラメータとした火星からの大気流出シミュレーションと太陽風パラメータへの依存性調査の開始などを行い、ほぼ当初の計画通り進んでいるため、「おおむね順調に進展している」を選択した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究では、現在の地球と火星における最新の観測と数値実験結果を比較することで物理機構の理解を深め、観測を定性的に記述可能な数値モデルを開発する。次に開発したモデルを用いて固有磁場強度を変えた場合の数値実験を行い、固有磁場強度が惑星電磁気圏環境の基本的性質に与える影響を明らかにすることを目指している。
計画第三年度までの研究により、平均的な太陽風と、過去を模した極端な太陽風条件下で火星の多成分MHDグローバルシミュレーションを行い、火星からの大気流出率と流出機構が、固有磁場強度や太陽風磁場の向きの変化に対してどのように変化するかについて、定性的な傾向を理解するところまで来ている。研究計画最終年度には、更に固有磁場強度を強くした場合に、惑星周辺の宇宙環境や大気流出率がどのように変化するかを調べるとともに、過去の太陽条件の推定値の範囲内で複数の条件下でのシミュレーションも行い、より一般的に太陽風や太陽放射への依存性を調べる計画である。
また、昨年度までのシミュレーション結果で得られたイオン種による振る舞いの違いに着目し、火星および地球における探査機による観測データの解析を進め、数値実験、観測の双方から得られた研究成果を総括して、地球型惑星の電磁気圏環境に固有磁場強度が与える影響について新たに得た知見をまとめたい。
