| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
By using an advanced driving support system, there is a possibility that a phenomenon called mind wandering (MW), in which awareness is not related to driving behavior, may occur. It has been found that MW occurs unconsciously and is associated with subjective comfort. Therefore, we aimed to clarify how much MW occurs in the case of the driving support system and how it affects the enjoyment of the driving in comparison with normal manual driving. In this study, we identified elements of driving pleasure. Then we found that driving enjoyment was significantly higher when using a driving support system than with manual operation, and that MW was more likely to occur with manual operation.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
現状、開発の進む自動運転技術は、運転の楽しみを奪うのではないかという懸念が一般的に指摘される傾向があるが、実際には、運転支援システムは、運転の楽しみを向上する可能性を指摘することができた。運転支援システムは、利用するかどうかという自由度をドライバに与えるものであり、状況に応じた活用が可能である。高度な運転支援システムは単純に運転の楽しみを奪う訳ではないことを検証できたことに学術的意義がある。また、運転支援システムを活用した方がMWは生じにくいことが明らかとなったが、これは、完全自動運転ではない場合にはきちんとドライバが状況を監視していることが確認されたという点で社会的意義がある。
