Outline of Final Research Achievements

Design of catalysts for developing environment-friendly and efficient environment-conscious materials conversion system using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was investigated in “Photocatalytic production of H2O2” and “Organic synthesis reaction using H2O2”. The following themes were mainly performed for achieving these catalyst designs, and some designs capable of developing the environment-conscious materials conversion system were achieved in these study.
“(1) Production of H2O2 from oxygen using Pd co-catalyst-supported BiVO4 photocatalyst”,“(2) Production of H2O2 from water on BiVO4 photoanode modified alkali-earth metal oxides”,“(3) Sulfide oxidation reaction on layered double hydroxide immobilized inorganic anions”,“(4) Olefin oxidation reaction on thermal and photo-catalyst of BiVO4”

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

環境調和型物質変換反応系の発展に向けて、『原料となるH2O2の光触媒的製造』と『H2O2を利用した有機合成反応』をメインキーワードに研究を進めており、いずれもこれまでに無いアプローチでのいくつかの触媒設計指針が得られた。特に、「光」エネルギーを利用したO2やH2OからのH2O2製造や、H2O2自身の特性を変えることによって酸化触媒上での反応特性を制御する試みは、これまでにも例が少なく、学術的視点から見ても今後への応用展開がさらに期待できるアプローチである。これらの設計は、将来的な低環境負荷かつ高効率な環境調和型物質変換反応系の発展に大きく貢献し得る成果である。
