Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、層構造の非対称性を系における電流誘起スピン軌道トルクに着目し、その起源解明に関する研究を行った。スピン軌道トルクは、強磁性金属/重金属のベース構造にて面内方向に電流を流すことで、強磁性体にトルクが生じる現象である。スピン軌道トルクの生成機構は、これまでにスピンホール効果によるスピン流と強磁性体へのスピン注入等が提唱されてきた。一方で、強磁性金属/重金属の界面では界面散乱に起因した新たなスピン流生成機構が理論的に提唱された。この生成機構では、界面での非対称性に由来した有効磁場が大きな役割を担っている。そこで、本年度はこの新しいスピン流生成機構に起因したスピン軌道トルクの検出・系統的調査に焦点を当てた研究を行った。
本研究では、界面において強いスピン軌道相互作用を有するとされるPt/Co界面に着目した。この界面は、界面に由来した強い垂直磁気異方性が発現する系でもある。対象となるスピン軌道トルクを実験的に検出するためにPt/Co構造に強磁性体のPyを接合させたPy/Pt/Coの三層構造を用い、Py層に生じる電流誘起トルクを定量的に測定した。その結果、スピンホール効果によるトルク成分に加えて、これまでの機構では説明ができない対称性を有するトルク成分が同時に観測された。詳細な解析の結果、上記の新たなスピン流生成機構によって説明ができることを明らかにした。加えて、このスピン流は界面構造を制御することによって、その大きさ・符号を制御できることが判明し、観測されたトルクが界面効果に由来したものであることを示した。
