| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research reveals the political thought in the work of Robert Herrick by assessing its function as political propaganda for the Cavaliers. In the political context, Leah Marcus has successfully highlighted the political dimension of his poems. I build on her work to illuminate Herrick's study by examining his political intentions through two major themes: “Arcadian living” and“natural history and folklore.” This contributes to Herrick’s study by unearthing the fact that his insinuations about Puritans and social upheaval are embedded in his interest in natural history, which Marcus did not analyze. Furthermore, it investigates the fusion of lyricism and social criticism in Hesperides in seventeenth-century England. In poetry, the mastery of metaphor and euphemism is directly connected to the avoidance of censorship, which makes it possible to present a political statement to society while maintaining the poem's lyrical values, coexisting without undermining each other's value.

ロバート・ヘリックの抒情詩集『ヘスペリディーズ』が持つ抒情性と社会性の融合、またそれらの一見相反する性質の併存状況がもたらす政治的機能等から作品に流れる王党派の詩想について明らかにすることを目的とし成果をあげた。本研究においてはマーカスの研究が重要な先行研究となっている。しかし、マーカス、さらに続く研究者たちが分析していないヘリックの博物学的興味の中にも、ピューリタン社会や動乱の時代に対する当擦り、ヘリックが元来有する民俗学的また広範な意味での博物学的興味から広がる独特の世界観に根ざした王党派の政治的詩想を見出し、従来の研究に新たな視点を与える内容となっている。
