Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Our achievements in this research project can be summarized as follows. First, by integrating a variety of textual analytical methods such as narratology, stylistics and discourse analysis, we have improved and refined our textual analytical procedures for narrative data. Second, by showing that literary studies are interconnected with cognitive and medical sciences, the current study has demonstrated one way in which literature can make a new contribution to our rapidly aging society. Finally, the findings obtained through the analysis of non-literary texts demonstrate that these methods could generate significant findings in the field of literary studies as well. These results were reported at two symposiums hosted by Japanese Association of Qualitative Psychology and The Japan Association of International Liberal Arts and through the publication of the research achievement report subsidized by the current grant.
