| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In today's globalized society, where various values and beliefs coexist, it is inevitable that people express and share their values to create the public sphere and an inclusive society collaboratively. English speech activities tend to be regarded as mere one-way flow of information. Nevertheless, it is significant to bring about above-mentioned "citizens" by rendering English speech activities "dialogical." Especially, emphasizing the importance of training "audiences who speak" will make speakers pay close attention to audiences. Furthermore, it will enable "audiences who speak" to transform themselves into ideal speakers so that speech activities will become a more dialogical process.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
社会の価値観が多様化している一方、日本社会は依然として文化的同質性をベースとした閉塞的な社会観を保持し、自律した個を起ち上げることができないでいる。コミュニケーション能力を育成するための英語教育も、その考察の枠組み自体が道具的な言語観・コミュニケーション観に影響され、言語、自己、文化、社会、コミュニケーションの本質を捉え損ねている。
本研究は、コミュニケーション学の知見から、シティズンシップ教育を基盤にした英語教育再編を試みた。特に、日本語とは異なる文化的背景を持つ英語の指導法を対話的にすることにより、市民性の形成に寄与することが可能であることを示したことに、本研究の社会的・学術的意義がある。
