| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research seeks to elucidate the adjustments made to accommodate the diverse costs―and the motivation for making such adjustments―that are engendered by the effort to sustain and carry forward folk culture.
Our findings are presented under the title, Minzoku bunka no keisho ni okeru kosuto to mochibeshon ni kansuru kisoteki kenkyu (Basic Research on the Costs and Motivations of Transmitting Folk Culture), and a collation of the materials studied: Hyakumanben ninbetsucho: Tsugawamachi Shimotamachi. Ninbetsu shogakarihyo. Kansei juichi nen - Keio yo nen (Hyakumanben Religious Event Records for Tsugawamachi and Shimotamachi, Kansei 11 to Keio 4 [1799 to 1868]). We confirmed that though folk culture appears to have been transmitted at considerable cost in terms of money, human resources, and volunteer activity, those same costs can be perceived as motivating factors for passing folk culture on from one generation to the next.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、民俗文化を当事者に種々の負担を強いるコストとして把握し、そのコストと民俗文化を遂行するモチベーションの、調整過程から成る民俗文化の継承を明らかにしたものである。民俗文化に関して近年では文化資源や観光の文脈で注目されてきたが、それが時に当事者にとっては重いコストとなることは従来十分に重視されたとは言い難い。本研究が示すその実態把握と、継承に向けた種々の工夫の把握は、現在継承にむけ活動する担い手にとり意義ある成果になり得ると考える。
