This study primarily investigates the pharmaceutical industry and focuses on open innovation as an opportunity to stimulate the trade of knowledge. Drug discovery ventures desire licensing (open innovation) to sell candidate substances that are knowledge products, but many companies do not achieve the desired results. In my research, I found that customer orientation and communication are important for drug discovery ventures to engage in licensing. I also found that there is a clear difference between successful and unsuccessful licensees in terms of customer orientation and communication awareness.
