Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study focused on the process of self-realization of patients with gender identity disorder (GID), examining psychological changes before and after GID comprehensive medical care. The results of Rorschach tests showed improvements in indicators of suicide risk (S-Con) and stress tolerance (D-score) as common features. The semi-structured interviews conducted after the GID comprehensive medical care revealed that receiving the care was a critical turning point. Stressors had changed, and their close confidants, who understood them, were of great help. Additionally, they found encouragement through connections with other patients struggling with similar problems. While the emotional burden had been reduced because they were able to live their own lives with their preferred gender, new stresses emerged. These included changes in relationships with family members, side effects from sex reassignment surgery(SRS), and anxiety about their prognosis.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
