Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of the present study is to clarify the process of forming multicultural music education at the western part of the United States. The western region had social and cultural diversity due to its historical and geographical conditions. We focused on California. We analyzed educational programs developed at various levels such as provinces, counties, cities, schools and teachers. We considered the formation process of multicultural music education in the western part of the United States.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

米国における多文化音楽教育の歴史的展開は、一般に1960年代の公民権運動を起点として研究されてきた。これに対して本研究では、多文化音楽教育の実現にいたる基盤として、その前史に注目する。1910年代から1960年代に至る過程で、社会的・文化的に多様性を獲得していった西部地区を中心として、そこで展開された音楽教育を多文化教育の視点から検討・分析した。
