| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
According to the pain-related fear-conditioning, time of reaching movements was longer , reflecting hesitation of movements. Not only movements immediately before painful stimuli (i.e. deceleration phase) were delayed, but also movements in the acceleration phase were delayed by pain expectation and fear. Similar results were observed in the muscular coherence, indicating that pain expectation and fear involuntarily enhances co-contraction of antagonist muscles. Such negative emotional modulation might explain ‘unnatural’ but ‘not neurological’ motor abnormalities observed in chronic pain patients.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
運動恐怖を伴う慢性疼痛患者では、従来から知られている小脳失調などの神経学的失調運動とは異なる運動の巧緻性低下が観察される。今回の結果からは特に感覚フィードバックによる運動調節相である減速期に、上肢の主働筋と拮抗筋の同時収縮が顕著となることが示され、これが神経失調症状とは異なる巧緻性低下の原因であることを明らかにした。また、運動恐怖は運動習慣だけでなく、抑うつや自己効力感のような心理的問題にも直接的に悪影響を与えることが明らかになった。したがって、運動恐怖を改善する治療法は慢性疼痛患者の運動障害に対する治療として有用であると考えられる。
