Outline of Final Research Achievements

In the use of PEEK as the clasp of removable partial denture, the PEEK clasp must be affixed to the denture base resin. In the adhesive experiment between PEEK and acrylic resin, rocatec treatment with ceramic primer application showed the highest shear bond strength. Furthermore, polishing smooth surface of PEEK clasp is required after the adjustment on the laboratory side and chairside. The methods of polishing PEEK surface were investigated with using a laser microscope. The surface roughness (the mean height of the surface and mean deviation of the assessed profile) of PEEK polished by “Aqua blue paste” and soft brush were significantly smaller than other groups. Additionally, prototype PEEK clasps were made. But appropriate fit between PEEK clasp and abutment tooth was not obtained.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

義歯の構成要素の1つであり、義歯を歯に固定するためのクラスプは主に金属で製作される。そのため、金属色による審美障害や歯科用金属アレルギーを有する患者には使用できない。PEEKは歯冠色に近い色調と優れた機械強度を有しており、生体親和性も高い。PEEKを用いたクラスプを開発することで、義歯の安定に必要な機能を維持しつつ、審美的で低侵襲なクラスプが実現できると期待できる。本研究はPEEKクラスプを臨床応用する上で必須となる内容であり、学術的意義や社会的意義は高いといえる。
