Research Abstract |
This study is to make researches on scenic art that is the margin field between theater and fine art. The object of research is modern scenic art after Meiji period in view of specialty of participating researchers. To examine scenic art from visual cultural viewpoint, not only historians of theater and fine art but also those of music and architecture were involved with this project. In three meetings a year, experts of various field participated and this made talks live and topics discussed varied so much. That reflects in our final report. The report includes such diverse themes as modern Noh, international tour of Japanese theater, theater architecture, stage photography, dance, theater music, and so on: Ito Maki on Hibiya Open-air Noh performance and Pine on the Stage, Inoue Yoshie on Kawakami Otojiro's First Production of "Konjiki Yasha" and His Tour Abroad, Umemiya Hiromitsu on Kawakita Renhichiro's Project of Theater and Stage Machinery, Omuka Toshiharu on Horino Masao's Stage Photography in the Photo Times magazine, Kinoshita Naoyuki on Heroism at Sino-Japanese War, Kimura Rieko on Alexander Sakharov's Visit to Japan, Takeishi Midori on Yamada Kosaku's Theater Music, and Sakamoto Mai on Kawakami Otojiro's Reformation of Theater. These views are based on exchanges of opinion at meetings we had for last few years and these might encourage understanding of scenic art in each field of study and each participant is expected to make researches, taking into consideration variety of cultural sectors around scenic art.
