Research Abstract |
4年にわたり、総計約400kgの雪を南極より日本に持ち帰ってもらい、その雪から地球外起源の塵を約200個発見した.その中から、従来、成層圏でしか捕集できなかった彗星起源塵を約10個同定できた.彗星起源塵には、炭素質コンドライトという隕石に特徴的な構成要素と鉱物学的にも同位体化学的にも区別のつかない物体が含まれることを発見した.さらに、彗星起源の塵と小惑星起源の塵には、炭素質物質の骨格構造的に違いがあることがラマンスペクトルの解析から分かった.
