Research Abstract |
In order to increase the ionic conductivity of ion-conductive polymer, incorporation of mesoporous silica (MPS) and treatment with supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) were conducted. We analyzed the nano-structure change due to the incorporation of MPS and absorption of CO2, and investigated the relationship between the structure and the electrical properties. The ionic conductivity of polyether / Li salt composite was measured under high-pressure CO2, and it was found that the CO2 pressure dependence of the ionic conductivity is positive, which is an extraordinary characteristic. The salt dissociation and the decline in the glass transition temperature due to the absorption of CO2 in the sample are the causes for the unusual pressure dependence of the ionic conductivity under high-pressure CO2. The effect of the incorporation of MPS on the structure and properties of ionic conductive polymer was investigated. We successfully made the ionic conductive composites filled with MPS and ionic liquid (IL) modified MPS (IL-MPS), in which the IL is introduced in the meso-pores of MPS. The ionic conductivity of the composites increased with the increase of filler content. Especially in case of IL-MPS filled composites, the ionic conductivity showed increase up to high content of IL-MPS. This is due to the high-conductive IL phase in the meso-pore, which functions as the fast ion-conductive channel. Furthermore, the effect of filler loading on the mechanical properties of ion-conductive polymer was investigated. The storage modulus (E') of MPS and IL-MPS filled composites increased with the increase in the filler content. We could successfully increase both the ionic-conductivity and storage modulus of the ion-conductive composites by using MPS and IL-MPS.
