Research Abstract |
An electric propulsion ship with Tandem typed POD propulsors was investigated in view of the propulsive performance and the ship maneuverability. (1) Based on SENSHO which is the first inland vessel with electric propulsion system in Japan, a new ship with Tandem typed POD propulsors was designed and its model was manufactured. (2) Using the model, resistance and self-propulsive tests were carried out in Towing Tank, Hiroshima University. As a results, we found that the propulsive performance was improved about 2-3% by changing the Tandem typed POD propulsors. (3) Center skegs of the hull have to be shortening for the ship with Tandem typed POD propulsors. Due to the effect, we found that the course-keeping ability was reduced in comparison with original SENSHO in the tank test. (4) To settle this problem, a new Tandem typed ship with twin side skegs was proposed. We confirmed that the new type ship is promising.
