Research Abstract |
Objective ; The goal of this research project is to establish a model of care management on behavioral disorder as a cognitive dysfunction. Background ; Many studies indicate managing behavior disorder is a crucial point for the people with dementia to maintain their lives in their own home. Evidence of intervention on behavior disorder was insufficient to make a guideline in Japan. Method ; Case examples which include improvement of behavior disorder were collected and a qualitative study was conducted with them in 2005. With the result of qualitative study, the authors developed a questionnaire to clarify the treatment of each behavior disorder in 2006. The questionnaires were mailed to 500 care managers and care workers in charge of community and institutional care in 2007. Results ; 204 samples were collected. Each sample included 3 to 4 kinds of behavior disorder and several kinds of interventions. The interventions are categorized into five aspects of the clients' lives ; physical condition, environment, communication, tasks of daily activities and conditions of family caregivers. The most common intervention was showed in communication technique, and especially sit back and take time for conversation was the most frequent intervention in this area. A guideline of care management based on the result was developed.
