Research Abstract |
We investigated on sound environments for "Healthy Japan 21" that allow both aged people and handicapped people to cheerfully live with their favorite matters. We examined a navigation system for both a street near the station and a crosswalk by parametric speakers in the actual intersection with loud traffic noise, where thousands of students passed through. We proposed "Space affordance" for effective walking and found that the navigation system with a narrow ultrasonic beam is very useful for a safe crossing in the noisy intersection. We also proposed a fast reading spatial knowledge system in order to minimize the listening time and to supplies directional spatial knowledge producing a synergy between our packaging method and ultrasonic beams. We clarify the magical number of human memory in a high speed listening is three. As a result of the experience listeners could listen to an explanation 4.8 times as fast as the regular speed of TTS system. The degree of not only static danger but also dynamic danger in the street was proposed for evaluation of route to a destination. Pedestrians can know whether they can safely walk along the route or not based on the degrees changing in a day. A method to make pedestrians to remember 3D geometric information when they hear it once was investigated. We also found the method to broadcast the voice information around the paths under ground utilizing the reflected sound of parametric speaker at the emergency time. The sound environments can supply pedestrians with basic functions to collaborate with the PDA of the Free Mobility Assistance system in Japan.
