Research Abstract |
This "Black Database in Japan" deals with the critical reception of African American culture in Japan, digitizing and annotating the contents item by item by uploading them onto the database. The following URL address is the one which this present database was recently created in at the commercial database. During 2005, computers and other peripheral apparatuses were obtained to get ready for the creation of the present database available to all the scholars specializing in African American criticism all over the world. From 2005 through 2006, what is available only abroad was obtained and digitized in order to add more information to the "Black Database in Japan." It was necessary to be a member for the commercial provider, AT&T, to upload material to the database. http://home.att.ne.ip/zeta/yorozuya/kokujin bunka.htm The Critical Response in Japan to African American Writers (New York : Peter Lang, 2003) covers only the critical reception of African American writers in Japan, although this is just the beginning of the project, "A Black Database in Japan." However, the items were all annotated in the bibliography and the database deals with a general overview of the critical reception of African American writers in Japan. Besides literary materials, African, Caribbean, South American historical, musical, and sociological studies in Japan are also necessary to be collected and annotated to be uploaded onto the "Black Database in Japan." Slavery studies and other sociological and socio-linguistic studies in Japan should also be considered to be collected ; however, the materials to be collected are spread all over various Japanese colleges and universities and it would be quite difficult to specify where they have been published.
