Research Abstract |
This Study is composed of three processes : (1) A Survey of the new studies about the administration of Rome in the Liberal era. (2) The Researches of documents at some archives in Italy. (3) An analysis of the documents. At first, through the survey, it became clear that the administration of Rome in this period was practically based on the Catholic charities and the new Italian state sought to control them by the committee of charity ( la congregazione di carita). The researches were carried out by following schedules. The first one : from 8 September to 26 September in 2005, at National Archive of Rome, some documents of Prefecture of Rome regarding to the charities were collected, for example, that of the committee of charity of Albano Laziale and that of the charity `S.S.Annunziata'. The second one : from 3 September to 18 September in 2006, at National Archive of Rome and at National Library of Firenze, the documents of Counting Office about ecclesiastic patrimony and that of Italian Feminist Organization 'Consiglio Nazionale delle Donne' were collected. Of these documents, that of the committee of charity of Albano Laziale was analyzed. And it became clear that the committee of charity performed independently in confront of the Prefecture and the State, although it was expected to be a part of the national institutions and seemingly began to be so after 1890. So we could suppose that the new Italian State, at least in Liberal era, sought to establish formally the institutions rather than to control really the Catholic charities.
